First Aid at Work & Outdoor First Aid

Is this for you?

Our Combined First Aid at Work & Outdoor First Aid Course provides learners with the essential knowledge and practical skills to respond confidently to medical emergencies in both workplace and outdoor environments. This qualification is ideal for those working in remote, rural or adventurous settings as well as traditional workplaces, giving a complete and comprehensive first aid capability.


This blended course includes 7–8 hours of interactive e-learning, followed by a full 7-hour practical training day with our experienced paramedic mentors and clinical educators. All training aligns with the latest guidelines, and learners receive full support and all materials required.

How long is this course?

This is a 1-day face-to-face course, and the times of this course typically run from 09:00 to 17:00. 

What is covered in this course?

Topics include:

Learners will cover a broad range of first aid topics, including:

  • Roles and responsibilities of a first aider
  • Incident and casualty assessment, reporting and record-keeping
  • Outdoor scene survey and safe approach
  • First aid kits, equipment and infection control
  • Emergency outdoor equipment (including shelters)
  • Getting help in the outdoors – air, land and sea rescue considerations
  • CPR & AED (defibrillator) use
  • Drowning and water-related emergencies
  • Choking
  • Managing an unconscious casualty
  • Seizures
  • Severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis)
  • Medical conditions: asthma, diabetes, epilepsy, heart attack, angina, stroke
  • Shock (including cold water shock)
  • Minor injuries – cuts, grazes, splinters
  • Injuries to bones, muscles & joints (including suspected spinal injuries)
  • Chest injuries
  • Burns – electrical, UV and friction burns
  • Eye, ear & nose injuries
  • External bleeding
  • Extremes of temperature: hypothermia, frostbite, heat exhaustion, heatstroke, dehydration
  • Poisoning (including blue-green algae & giant hogweed exposure)
  • Waterborne/Environmental illnesses: Weil’s Disease, Cryptosporidiosis, E.coli 0157
  • Animal & insect bites/stings – ticks & Lyme Disease, jellyfish, sea urchins, snakes and more

How will I be assessed?

You will have continuous assessment from the trainer/assessor running the course. There will also be a short written assessment and practical exam which is a pass/fail/defer basis. 

Do I get a certificate

Yes! 

On successful completion of this course, you will receive your own ALS Med First Aid at Work & Outdoor First Aid certificate, which is valid for 3 years from the date of issue. 

You will also receive a First Aider pin badge and CPR Faceshield keyring.
